Social Education, or education for life in society, is required in every country wedded to democracy. In India, with its high percentage of illiteracy, the survival of democracy depends largely on a vast Programmer of social education. A concept of social education which is confined mainly to the promotion of literacy is far too narrow.
In India, the scope of social education is, therefore, extended to (i) knowledge of spoken and written words, (ii) Training in citizenship, and (iii) satisfactory adjustment to social life.
